Hello all!
Sorry this blog has been far too quiet lately. That whole sequence of "work on revisions, send revisions to beta, implement beta's changes, send revisions to Secret Agent Man, spend next two weeks terrified about revisions while re-watching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer" takes up a surprising amount of brainpower.
So I am trying to distract myself. Sadly I am all out of Buffy episodes to watch, but there are other things! Planning my two WIPs. Looking at cute accessories on the internet. Stockpiling tasty-looking recipes. Entering this giveaway for THE NIGHTMARE AFFAIR by Mindee Arnett (and click the link to look at her awesomely creepy cover.) Watching this adorable video of debut author Susan Dennard receiving a copy of her book (okay, yes, that brings me back to publishing again, but in a good way!) Adding upcoming books to my Amazon Wist List, then trying to devise a method of time-travel so I can read them before everyone else. Job-hunting -- oh no, wait, now we're back at terror again.
But you get the idea! As realistic as I am about my chances in the publishing world, it's hard not to daydream - about what my cover would look like, or my first signing, or the fabulous outfits I would wear to BEA (of which I have several!) Sometimes those daydreams are good to have around. And other times, I just need to put them out of my mind. It's much better for my blood pressure.
What do you do when you need to distract yourself?
Hmm when I need to distract myself....Well I WENT to BEA this year so that was a distraction. I read. I watch movies. I watch TV. I read my beta's novels. Okay basically I just do everything to distract myself. I am pro-distractor. I am seriously wishing you best of luck with this LOOONG R+R, Becky and I hope to hear good news within the year =D!

Wow, that's so exciting that you got to go to BEA, Rachel! It's definitely a dream of mine to go, and I hope to join all you awesome people next year :D
DeleteHi, Becky! I'm hopping over from Katie Mills's Bloffee.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find a good distraction when you're waiting for feedback, or waiting on queries, or waiting on submission. Every time I see that Inbox (1) -- my heart jumps!
Finding a new series to watch via Netflix is good. (I mean new to me, but usually well-known to everybody else.)
Finding a good book to read also helps, but since it's hard to concentrate while waiting, it has to be a REALLY good book to catch my attention.
And playing with a new writing project is probably the best distraction of all!
Hi Dianne! Thank you so much for stopping by!
DeleteFinding a new series on Netflix is a big one for me too - to the point that sometimes I wonder if I'm going to run out of new shows soon! It's definitely a good way to unglue myself from the computer for a while, but I'm like you. As soon as I hear that e-mail chime, my heart stops for a second!
Hello Rebecca! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. Over the Rainbow and Iz's medley make me tear up, too. Soooooo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to being so busy, it's hard to find time to blog. It's a constant battle, isn't it? When I need a distraction, I like to read, and sometimes play around with iMovie on my Mac and make goofy YouTube videos! Take care.
