Please Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself!
Good morning, all! Just saw this awesome-looking blogfest going around, and thought I would dive in myself. I'm always getting awesome new people around here, and I don't always get a chance to properly meet all of you.
So, hi! My name is Rebecca Mahoney, but the only people who call me Rebecca are the ones who don't listen when I say "please call me Becky." So please, call me Becky. :) I am almost 25 years old, and I've been writing for almost all those years. Most of what I write is YA, generally of the fantasy, horror, or mystery persuasion, but I will dabble in anything that grabs my attention. I am represented by Sara Crowe of Harvey Klinger, Inc.
Some fun facts about me:
- I am originally from the Boston area (er, Southern New Hampshire, really), and I currently live in DC. It's a strange, strange city, but its quirks have somehow grown on me. Nevertheless, my level of New England pride borders on obscene most days.
- By day, I work as an admin coordinator, which is a fancy way of saying that I spend most of my day trying to keep that throbbing vein in my forehead in check.
- I am proficient in Japanese, but my real second language is sarcasm. I am also fully conversant in silliness.
- I love: food, accessories, marathoning really well-written TV shows, marathoning really hilariously bad movies (preferably with friends), champagne, new recipes, buying more tea than I can possibly drink, adding excessive amounts of hyperbole to rather everyday routines, and of course, reading amazing books.
- I don't love: rude people, DC public transportation, being chased by bears. Terrible things, all.
I am also opening today up as an Open Question Day. If there's anything you've wondered about me (within reason), please do ask!

Nice to re-meet you~ love that your real second language is sarcasm! My current MS has a protagonist named Becky :)
ReplyDeleteNice to re-meet you as well, Jess! And yaaaaay - Becky is an awesome name. *not biased at all!*
DeleteHi, Becky! I am still so excited that you ended up with my awesome agent. I can't wait to see what's in store for you next!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - you guys have been so welcoming! I keep pinching myself to make sure it actually happened. *_*
DeleteHi, Becky! I'm in DC, live in VA though. Seems we have a lot in common (YA fantasy, sarcasm, hating rude people-LOL). Sarcastic question for you though...If you hate being called Rebecca, why have that across the top of your blog? Why not just Becky? If you visit my blog, you'll probably ask me a similar question. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Krystal! Nice to meet you! I live in VA as well - the "fake Virginia" part, though, so I always just say DC.
DeleteAs for your question, I don't hate it at all! I go by Rebecca professionally, so it's good for networking to have it up there in my header. But so few people call me Rebecca outside of work (day job or otherwise) that it sounds very formal to me coming from someone I'm friendly with. It's a little weird, I know!
Thanks for stopping by - I'll definitely go visit your blog as well!
Hi Becky....I'm off to find this blog hop because it sounds awesome. My question for you is - how did you get into writing? When did you start writing? :D
ReplyDeleteHiiii Rachel~! <3
DeleteI wrote my first story when I was 3... although "wrote" is a loose interpretation, as my mom transcribed it for me. If I recall correctly, it was about an angel battling a monster with a scepter to save her angel friends. (No idea where I got the word 'scepter' at 3, but I remember knowing it. Disney movie, maybe?)
I actually mostly wrote poetry and the occasional short story up until high school, but I always had a manuscript going on in my head. I finally managed to fully plot and write one out in senior year of high school, and I've been doomed ever since!
Hi Becky!
ReplyDeleteJapanese, that's so awesome!! I know they're not equivalents but I'd really love to learn Mandarin this year. Awesome languages!!
<3
Hi Mia, thank you for stopping by! <3 Good luck with Mandarin! I definitely wouldn't be able to do it - I am terrible with the different tones!
DeleteI'm also very impressed by the Japanese thing - I tried to learn it once, but failed miserably (languages of any kind are just not my forte). And I love your admin coordinator job description - I used to work in admin, so I can relate!
ReplyDeleteAhahahaha, fellow admin sufferers unite! It's certainly enriched my problem-solving skills, to say the least. ;)
DeleteHi Becky, See, I was listening. I boston is probably one of the major cities in the world that I haven't been to. I don't know how I keep missing it. I reluctantly get caught up in bad reality tv show marathons. Does anyone really watch this crap on purpose?
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. So have you been chased by a bear? Love the blog. Look forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, love your secondary languages. I studied Russian in college but silliness is still one of my primary languages.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is going to college at BU so we're becoming familar with that area. Love champagne and sarcasm too.
ReplyDeleteHa! I am also quite fluent in sarcasm, only I hadn't realized how much so until my six-year-old started pointing out and explaining sarcastic remarks to my four-year-old. Whoops. Something to work on. Perhaps I should brush up on the silliness. More age appropriate. Nice to meet you! Christy
ReplyDeleteMuch of my books are based in Boston area. And if you don't like rude people then you probably will not like the guy in my Weekend Follies video.
ReplyDeleteANd thanks for participating in the Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest!
Ah, I love it! You being conversant in silliness is why we get along so well. :) I might be a day late on Open Questions Day, but here I go anyway:
ReplyDeleteWhat was the title of the first thing you ever wrote?
Oops, I almost missed this! And the title was someting like "The Three Brave Angels." I was three. ;)
DeleteHey Becky! Great to meet you! Gosh, I really hate being chased by bears too. Flat out ruins my day. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you Becky!
ReplyDeleteI love bears... well, teddy bears to be precise.
Though I also love panda and koala bears... but only to look at! They are super cute... from a distance, that is...
Hi there, nice to meet you, and sorry about the public transportation thing. I've been lucky to live in some towns with pretty great bus systems.
